Today, I wore a denim skirt! I never wear denim anything so I was surprised to feel *cute*. Naturally, I decided to document it in a very old fashioned #OOTD series of pictures. Yes, I made a moment of how I felt to feel ‘cute’ because feeling cute has been so far and few for the past five years. If you feel sad for me, that’s ok, I feel sad too. I don’t know why I let my confidence fall to the wayside like I did but these days that is old news. So, to make new news, I photographed the moment because this simple spring outfit made me more confident and more myself.
It was a simple day today.
I had to drop the kids off to day care and I had an optometrist appointment to confirm my contact lenses. These are the kinds of appointments that I normally skip – because they seem so silly to me. I can see my contacts are serving me fine – no, I don’t need to see you again to tell you that my contact lenses are working fine.
But, out of trying to be a better adult I decided to go. And, more than that, I decided to get dressed.
Normally, on a Thursday I would walk the lake in the morning. A couple of weeks ago I had resolved in my mind that I would go to my appointment in my gym wear. It seemed logical because I already knew I would be walking the lake that morning.
But this morning I got dressed!
It was a very simple, country gal, kind of outfit. I wore a denim skirt which I have not worn, since I was about 15 years old. I paired it with a very modest cream knit top and a new necklace I picked up from a friends garage sale. I was going to wear heels but opted for my farm girl thongs instead. They are a tan faux leather slip on shoe from Target which I bought a year ago and are my ‘go to’ run-around-shoe because I tend to come back and forth from a farm all day long.
Fashionable but can handle stepping in poo – accidentally!
And, when I got home, I felt kind of cute so I took some quick snaps to remember the way I felt when I wore this outfit. These are the moments that confidence rises in a person. It’s when you take notice of what makes you feel good (cute!), live in the moment and soak up all of the good emotions, and repeat the outfit on another day.
Today, a denim skirt made me feel good!
I’m not really a denim skirt or denim anything kind of girl (jeans, dresses, etc), however, I’m glad I tried something different because this vibe made me feel young but not lambish. If you know, you know! 😉
Thinking I might do a denim series for summer! 👙
